JEFFERSON – Thomas Aubrey Highfill, 72, died Sunday, February 15, 2009.
Born on March 14, 1936, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Aubrey and Ethel Mathis Highfill. He was a retired mail carrier, member of Oconee Baptist Church, and a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Stephenson Highfill, Jefferson; daughter, Amy Jo Kennedy, Commerce; sisters, Amy Carithers and Kathy Bridges, both of Carnesville; granddaughters, Kayley and Emily Edwards, both of Jefferson; and grandson, Gath Kennedy, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 17, at 10:30 a.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Dugar Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the Dry Pond Methodist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chip Bridges, Clay Bridges, Chad Bridges, Steve Copeland, Lamar Elrod and Jerry Elrod. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
