NICHOLSON – Silas Mayo Wilbanks, 93, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Morris Jackson and Olia Brock Wilbanks. He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was retired from General Times as a tool maker. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Wilbanks was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Adams Wilbanks; and sons, Silas Mayo Wilbanks Jr. and Charles Dennis Wilbanks.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Bailey Wilbanks, Nicholson; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Marsha Wilbanks, Sherman, Texas, the Rev. Larry Joe Wilbanks and Kay Wilbanks, Vienna, and Phillip and Lisa Wilbanks, Hixon, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 13, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Joe Wilbanks, Harold Rogers and Kent Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the Howington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, February 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.
