Boyd Whitfield

HOMER - Boyd Mitchell Whitfield, Jr., 60, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

He was born in Clarke County, the son of the late Boyd Mitchell Whitfield Sr. and Eleanor Scales Whitfield. He was a cattle rancher. Mr. Whitfield was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Whitfield.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Estes Whitfield, Homer; daughter, Kate Whitfield Beasley, Oakwood; sons, Ben Whitfield, Maysville, and Wes Whitfield, Homer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Karen Campbell and their family, Homer; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 12, at Maysville Baptist Church with the Revs. Wade Lott and William C. Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Medical Center Foundation, Ronnie Green Heart Center, 2150 Limestone Pkwy., Gainesville, GA 30501.

Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, in charge of arrangements.

Oh heaven is a lot better off now, with Mitch up there, but here on earth - it is just devasting!!!! My heart goes out to you all Ellen and you will all be in my prayers.

Our prayers are with you Ellen and the children and grandchildren. I know this is quite a shock to you all. We were not aware of Elenor's death either. As family, we express our deepest sympathy. Our son, Matt, played with Ben in Commerce many, many years ago when they were just kids. But my memories of Mitch go way back to his Grandma, my Aunt Callabelle and those visits to her house in Homer.

Mitch was a great person to know. I had the pleasure of knowing him while I was at the Homer office of Regions. My prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be missed.

I miss Eenie. I used to rent from Eenie. Mitch, you, and your kids were her life. You all are so close. I will be praying for your family. God will bring you through the tough time you will face in the years to come. All these sorrows we face are not meant for us to understand, but God heals all wounds if you have faith in him.

ELLEN , I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSE I KNOW THIS WAS A SHOCK TO YOU, YOUR NEVER REALLY PREPARED FOR THESE THINGS BUT FOR THEM TO BE SO SUDDEN WITHOUT WARNING.
I REMEMBER HOW KIND MITCH WAS TO MY BROTHER DOUGLAS AND HOW LONG WE ALL HAVE KNOWN EACH OTHER .
