CARNESVILLE – Rickey Westbrooks, 54, died Saturday, February 7, 2009.
Born in Jackson County on September 29, 1954, he was the son of the late Billy Joe and Violet Brady Westbrooks. He was a member of Lamar Christian Church and worked in construction. He enjoyed camping, remodeling and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Janice Westbrooks, Carnesville; sons, Jamie Westbrooks, Cleveland, Phillip Herring, Mt. Airy, and Joseph Herring, Carnesville; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Ned Johnson, Kingsport, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Irene Gibson, Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Katherine Westbrooks, Austin Gillespie, Preston Gillespie Herring, Kara Herring, Skyler Hearing, Sidney Herring and Elizabeth Herring; two nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial will be at the Old Damascus Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Rickey Westbrooks was my Uncle. I'm one of the two neices mentioned in his obituary. He was taken from us too soon, and may God bring justice here or in eternity. We love and miss him every day and pray that he is at peace- that his spirit can feel the love we all still have for him.
