George Thomas

TALMO – George Toney Thomas Sr., 82, formerly of Walnut Grove and Barrow County, died Monday, January 26, 2009.

A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Llyod and Gladys Prickett Thomas. He was a retired truck driver with DeKalb County and was a member of Gum Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Thomas.

Survivors include sons, Toney Thomas Jr., Talmo, and Joey Thomas, Winder; grandchildren, Kaylee A. Thomas, Lacie Benton, Emily Smith, Melissa Barnett, C.J. Barnett, A.J. Barnett and Ashley Dobbins; great-grandchildren, Dylan Simmons, Tyler Simmons, Chloe Long, Addie Simmons, Gunner Maddox, Gavin Barnett and Dakota Barnett; sisters, Betty Greenway and Mary Brock, both of Winder; and a brother, Paul Thomas, Carl.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 29, at Gum Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Hoyt Wilkins and Russell White officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Carter Funeral Home, Winder, was in charge of arrangements.
