MARTIN – Edna Merle Adams Allen, 81, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at her residence.
Born on February 16, 1927, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late O.L. and Willie Mae Evans Adams. She was retired from Tugaloo State Park after 20 years of faithful service, and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Allen; brother, Herman Adams; and sister, Sally Irvin.
Survivors include children, Diane and Eddie Hart, Stanley Allen, Deborah and Melvin Powers, and Wayne and Delores Allen; grandchildren, Melanie Leonard, Chris Allen, Chad Hart, Angie Shedd, Kenny Powers and Larissa Garner; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Courtney, Andrew, Grace, Hope, Christian, Elizabeth, Emma, Katherine, Brannon, Brian, Matt and Stacy; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Aurelia Drake, Andrew Adams, Branson Adams, Bill Adams, Rebecca Gunnin, and Eleanor Fitzpatrick; and very special loved ones, Gail Allen and Sandra Allen.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 24, at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. David Gilliland officiating. Burial was in the Lavonia City cemetery.
Strickland Funeral Home, Lavonia Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
