ROYSTON – Fay Holland, 96, formerly of Bowersville, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
Born on October 9, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin M. and Electa Walters Holland. Miss Holland was a retired educator with the Franklin County School System for 38 years, with 35 years in the Lavonia Elementary School. She was a member of the Franklin County Retired Educator Association, member of N.R.T.A., and former member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a member of the Bowersville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years, and was a member of the W.M.U. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include nephews, Ben Johnson, Deland, Tenn., Dale Holland, Chapin, S.C., and Jack Holland, Grayson; nieces, Mary Sue Shumolis, Canton, N.C., Betty H. Jackson, LaGrange, Jean Keenan, Shelby, N.C.; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 25, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev Connie Ivester officiating. Burial was in the Bowersville City Cemetery.
Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
