TALMO – Grace Collins Thomas, 94, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the residence of her daughter-in-law Angie Thomas, following an extended illness.
Born on May 10, 1914, in Hall County, she was the daughter of the late Marion Floyd and Rebecca Hawkins Collins. She was a retired from the poultry industry, having worked for several of the local hatcheries. She was a member of Sugar Hill Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Franklin Thomas; son, Dr. Marlon Thomas; and brothers, Grady, Otto, Grover, Maurice, Artro and Bob Collins.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mahlon H. and Ann Thomas, Gainesville; daughter-in-law, Angie Thomas, Gainesville; grandchildren and spouses, Chris and Melanie Thomas, Talmo, Kim and Bobby Reed, Gainesville, April and Terry Kimbrell, Cleveland, and Sean Thomas, Talmo; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Hudgins, Gainesville; brother-in-law, Aaron Thomas; sisters-in-law, Mary Thomas, Memphis, Tenn., and Clara Thomas, Louisville; special sister-in-law, Edith Collins, Gainesville; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 17, at Ward’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Paul Morris and Howard Collins officiating. Burial was in Alta Vista Cemetery.
Ward’s Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.
