HARTWELL – Sara Blackwell McMullan, 94, died peacefully Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at her residence.
Born on February 12, 1914, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Lon and Alice Hill Blackwell. She was a graduate of Tift College and was a retired school teacher and paraprofessional. She was a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church, Ruth Sunday School Class, and a former Wednesday night supper worker. She was a charter member of Madora Garden Club, Avid Bridge player, and enjoyed fishing, loved ones stated. Mrs. McMullan was preceded in death by her husband, John F. McMullan, who was Banks County’s 2nd County agent; a son, Lewis B. McMullan; brothers, Jessie, Maurice and Fred Blackwell; and sisters, Alice Tucker and Ruby Blackwell.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, William T. “Tom” and J.K. McMullan, Athens, James B. “Jim” and Rosaline McMullan, Hartwell; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Miriam Blackwell, Homer; sister, Frances Farmer, Atlanta; grandchildren, Dr. John P. McMullan, Dr. Laura K. McMullan; Russell L. McMullan, Kimberly L. McMullan; and a great-grandchild, T. Parker McMullan.
Memorial services were held Saturday, January 10, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Williams, the Rev. Carter Tucker, and Dr. Hugh Kirby officiating.
