WINDER – John Gilreath, 71, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009.
Born in Dawson County, he was the son of the late Norman D. and Jessie R. Gilreath. He had lived in Dahlonega before moving to Winder, and was retired from North Georgia College after 25 years of service. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dahlonega, and after moving to Winder, he attended East Side Baptist Church. Mr. Gilreath was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Fay Day; and brother, Herbert Gilreath.
Survivors include his wife, Verba Jean Gilreath, Winder; sisters and brother-in-law, Savilla M. Sanders, Statham, Brenda and James Jones, Bethlehem; brothers and sisters-in-law, James “Bud” and Inez Gilreath, Winder, Jimmy and Evelyn Gilreath, Bethlehem, Roy and Sylvia Gilreath, Statham; brother-in-law, Jack Day, Winder; and a sister-in-law, Jane B. Gilreath, Dawsonville.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16, at 2 p.m. at Smith Memory Chapel with the Revs. Darrell Gilmer and Jack Segars officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m.
