SAUTEE - William ‘Bill’ Jack Mize, 83, died Monday, January 12, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born September 3, 1925, in Banks County, the son of the late Paul and Viola Fowler Mize. He served as a radio/communications operator in the U.S. Navy during World War II followed by a tour in the U.S. Air Force. He sang in the choir and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Warner Robins. Mr. Mize retired from Atlanta Gas Company after 34 years service, where he served as manager of the Liquid Gas (LNG) Plant in Jones County. He had been a resident of Sautee Nacoochee since October 2001 He was preceded in death by his first wife Wanda Newsom Mize; and sisters, Maxine Orser and Bea Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Wendt Mize, Sautee Nacoochee; daughter, Dr. Jacquelyn Mize-Pettit, Auburn, Ala.; sons, William Wendt, Milledgeville, and Donald Wendt, Cleveland; brother, Ed Mize, Salt Lake City, Utah; grandsons, Stefan Pettit, Auburn, Ala., and Jeremiah Wendt, Cleveland; granddaughters, Wendy Wendt, Sautee Nacoochee, and Kari Pennington, Cleveland; one great-grandson; two great-granddaughters, three nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 14, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bob Prim officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
