CARNESVILLE – Thomas Edward Cothran, 78, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Franklin County on June 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Sloan Edward and Clara Bell Burgess Cothran. He was a retired machinist, was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and a member of the Athens Antique Car Club. He was a veteran, having served in the United States National Guard during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Cothran was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Roach Cothran.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia G. Cothran, Carnesville; sons, Tommy Cothran, Swainsboro, and William Cothran, Canon; daughters, Ann Hoff, Buford, Judy Head, Gainesville, Nancy Phillips, Royston, and Linda Martin, Carnesville; sister, Barbara Herron, Springfield, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 10, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Jameson officiating. Burial was in the Franklin Memorial Gardens-North.
Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
