COMMERCE – Nell Juanita Head Alewine, 74, formerly of Lavonia, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Alzheimer’s Care of Commerce.
Born on January 16, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Zephyr Stovall head. She was a loving homemaker and a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church. Mrs. Alewine was preceded in death by brothers, Rudolph Head and Alvin Head; and a sister, Helen Head Cisson.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Max Alewine, Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Michele Alewine, Buford; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jessica and Jeremy Gordy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Johnny Webb, Blue Ridge, Joyce and James Moore, Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14, at 2 p.m., at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Manus and Jason DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa. The staff of Alzheimer’s Care of Commerce are to serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Atlanta, Ga. 30345.
Strickland Funeral Home, Lavonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
