Charles Shirley

Charles Glenn Shirley, 77, of Jefferson, died Saturday, June 7, 2008.

He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Leo B. and Lauree Park Shirley. He was a Mason, a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, a retired general contractor, and owner of Charles Shirley, Inc. Mr. Shirley was preceded in death by brothers, Dow, Cecil, Richard and Samuel Shirley; and a sister, Lanelle Vandiver.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Payne Shirley, Jefferson; sons and daughters-in-law, Buster and Pat Shirley, Chris and Sharon Shirley, all of Jefferson; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Phillip Patterson, Jefferson; brothers, Gene Shirley, Winder, Ben Shirley, Commerce; sisters, Betty Lord and Carolyn Merk, both of Commerce, Marion Salter, Forest Park; grandchildren, and spouse, Bess and Chad Barnett, Ben Shirley, Aubrey Shirley, Natalie Shirley, all of Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Gradeigh Barnett, Lucy Barnett; and a long time companion border collie, “Nookie”.

A celebration service was held Monday, June 9, at the Bethany United Methodist Church with Chris Shirley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Honored as pallbearers were John Boy Stringer, Buster Shirley, Chris Shirley, Ben Shirley, Aubrey Shirley and Phillip Patterson.
